Our Story

Some Pictures and a bit about us and our history

Our Mum, Joan Dowdell  owned and ran the Three Meadows Cattery in Fareham for nearly 40 years until her death aged 91 in January 2026. Her aim was always to offer an affordable but luxurious cattery. She had a lifetime devoted to animals and in addition to the cattery and her own cats, she  bred, showed and judged Pyrenean Mountain Dogs, American and English Cocker Spaniels. 

Mum was  ably supported by several members of staff who were employed for their love of animals, caring  efficient natures and desire to look after other peoples cats like their own.  A look back at our Facebook page when we announced Mum's death showed the fond esteem in which she was held by so many customers who warmly remembered  her cheerful and  reassuring chats when they rang to make a booking or to check on their cat.  

In the latter year of Mum's life the staff took over most of the daily running of the business enabling Mum to fulfil her desire to never retire and following her death  for us to seamlessly continue running the business both as a tribute to her hard work and also in thanks to the loyal staff.  

So what has changed?  Hopefully you will just see the same friendly service and care for your pets.  In the background we have embraced technology (Mum would be very cross!) and the combination of a customer e mail address, 3meadowscattery@gmail.com and an online cattery management system means we have more flexibility in replying to enquiries and making bookings.  We can also update you on how your cat is doing. Please do e mail us and ask how they are - we are happy to send photos too.  Wi-Fi in the cattery now enables bank payments to be made at the time of collection and to have comprehensive security cameras monitoring the premises.  

You might see one of us when you are dropping off or collecting, we might be doing some maintenance or stepping in to lend a hand when its busy.  You might catch a stray grand child wielding a paint brush or playing with a cat too.  This is still very much a family business.
